Devotional Tea 17: Remember Jesus

Scripture: 2 Timothy 2:8-9 (NKJV)

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained.

Meditation:
You may forget me, what I have said, and what I have done. I shall not complain. I ask of you but one thing: that you will always remember Jesus Christ. Remember who He is, and you will never be ashamed to confess Him before men. Remember who He is and you will never have any doubts about your eternal salvation. (Dr. Alva J. McClain)
Jesus is the very reason and core of our walk with God. He is our peace who has broken down every wall against us. [Ephesians 2:14] He is our wisdom, righteousness and sanctification, and redemption. [1 Corinthians 1:130] He is the power and the wisdom of God. [1 Corinthians 1:24] He is our hope of glory. [Colossians 1:27]

To remember something is to commemorate, celebrate, or extol it. It is to make it prime and/or boast of it. It is to be mindful of it and invoke it. Doing all these are what it means to "Remember Christ." We are to celebrate all that He was, is and is going to be. We celebrate all that He represents. We invoke His name on our behalf. We lay claim to the power and authority of the New Covenant enacted in His blood and sacrifice.

This we do each time we partake in communion, but we should not limit it to that alone. We ought to invoke it every morning. We ought to bring it into all our dealings. We ought to invite Him as our all in all. We ought to carry Him as He truly is, "Jehovah Nissi - The Lord our banner. [Exodus 17:15] The Lord our Victory. The Lord our Strong Tower."

Further Reading: Luke 22:14-23; 1 Corinthians 11:25; Ephesians 2; Hebrews 12:2; 1 Peter 3:15; 2 Peter 1:3.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the cross. Thank you for the broken body of Christ than grants us access to you. Thank you for the blood that cleanses us, and every handwriting or covenant that stands against us. Help us to walk in the fullness of that which is ours in the New Covenant. Help us show forth Christ in all His glory.

Quotes:

  • Faith is not our physician; it only brings us to the Physician. It is not even our medicine; it only administers the medicine, divinely prepared by Him who healeth all our diseases. In all our believing, let us remember God’s word to Israel: I am Jehovah, that healeth thee (Exod. 14:26). Our faith is but our touching Jesus; and what is even this, in reality, but His touching us?" Not Faith, But Christ. (Horatius Bonar)
