Devotional Tea 23: A Cleansed and Noble Soul

Scripture: Matthew 5:43-48 (NIV)

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Meditation:
If someone is leaving you behind, and you are becoming jealous and embittered, keep praying that he may have success in the very matter where he is awakening your envy; and whether he is helped or not, one thing is sure, that your own soul will be cleansed and ennobled. (William Law)
It is you God is interested in, Where is your focus? Where is your attention? Do you know God? Do you trust Him? Do you trust in His ability to take care of you and reward accordingly? It is you He wants. Are you giving Him that much?

Further Reading: Genesis 45, 50:15-21; Psalm 51:10; Luke 23:33-35; Acts 7:59-60.

Prayer: Lord, help me always fix my eyes on you. Remind me it is never about me, but always about you, your glory and your purpose. Make my heart and my soul whole and truly thine.

Devotional Tea 24: Our Power is in Him

The same hand that stilled the seas stills your guilt. The same hand that cleansed the temple cleanses your heart. The hand is the hand of God. The nail is the nail of God. And as the hands of Jesus opened for the nail, the doors of heaven opened for you. (Max Lucado)
