Devotional Tea 18: Prayer: A Relationship

Scripture: Matthew 6:7 (NKJV):

And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

Meditation:

What Matthew 6:7 is simply saying is we should always bear in mind God is not a thing. He is a person. Prayer is not a switch, nor is it an incantation, or chanting. It is not a magic word. It is communication with a living God, with whom you ought to have a relationship.

We don't communicate with our earthly fathers by making incantations. Why do we think God is any different? Take away the heart and prayer loses its power. Prayer is never about the much words of the mouth, like many fake prophets and preachers are making it today. It is all about our hearts coming to have fellowship with God. It is a heart to heart affair. Anything otherwise is fake and ineffective. Hoping this helps.

Prayer: Lord, teach me to pray.
